Librarian, McCullough Junior High
I moved to The Woodlands, Texas in June, 2005 to accept this terrific position as librarian at McCullough, and to marry my wonderful husband, Jerry. Before moving to The Woodlands, I lived in Sulphur and Lake Charles, Louisiana, for 35 years. I grew up in Texarkana, Arkansas, where I attended St. Edward's Catholic School through grade 9, and then I graduated from Arkansas High School. I am a proud Arkansas High Razorback!
I have 3 great kids:
I have two beautiful step-daughters, Jill, who is in the Navy, and Sarah, who lives in Hawaii.
I am the proud grandmother of 5 little boys: David 10; Kevin 9; Wesley 6, Gabe 4, Owen 3, and a step-grandson Reis, 15!
My career in education includes one year as a junior high special education teacher, 18 years as an elementary school librarian, and 3 years as a junior high school librarian. Before I entered education, I worked as a bank teller, accounts payable clerk, and I held about 10 different clerical positions over several years at Citgo Refinery in Lake Charles. By far, my favorite job and my life's passion is working as a school librarian.
My hobbies are reading, traveling with Jerry and our friends on our Harleys, and working out at the gym. I enjoy spending time with my sweet grandsons whenever I can. Jerry and I have moved into our new home in the country and we are enjoying decorating inside and landscaping outside.
I love to read, and just like my students, I love series books! My favorites are the Mitford series by Jan Karon , and The Number One Ladies Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith. Some of my favorite contemporary authors are Anne Tyler, Nora Ephron, and Mary Higgins Clark. My best-loved classic authors are Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, and Louisa May Alcott.
Books I am reading right now:
Atonement by Ian McEwin. If you love Jane Austen, Louisa May Alcott, Lucy Maud Montgomery....this is the book for you! Beautiful.
Mayflower by Nathaniel Philbrick...........an engrossing account of the 55-year-long epic of the settlement of Plymouth Colony and surrounding New England. Philbrick's historically accurate telling sheds light on the stormy relationship between the native Americans and the religious English settlers. I could not put it down.
I read Eckhart Tolle's A New Earth, Oprah's latest book club choice. Now I am trying to read his Power of Now. I think I am missing something....now.
