First Quarter Reading Contract

Students will read a biography chapter book (pre-approved by the teacher). They will complete an independent reading contract that will include activities for pre-reading, during their reading and after reading. They will practice their writing and language skills. All of the above activities will be completed at school.

All students are required to complete 1 art project. Only the art project may be completed outside of school. However, students may work on it during their free reading time in class.

The first biography contract is due Tuesday, October 7th.

Students will then complete a second contract. This will be a fiction book. Again their book must be pre-approved by the teacher. Work will be completed in class, except for the art. Due to the short amount of time between contracts. Students will ONLY complete the conference form, write a letter to Mrs. Gannucci, find 8 action verbs, and create a game (may be done at home).

The second contract is Friday, October 24th.

The expectation is that students will be reading daily both at home and school. If students finish their first book before the due date, they should continue to read for pleasure until the second contract is assigned.

Students are not expected to record number of minutes read. The focus of at home reading should be READING and learning to love books. Students will still record books read on their bright orange recording form in their manilla reading folder at school.
