Welcome ! I am pleased to have the honor of instructing your child in his or her eigth grade Language Arts course. Eigth grade is a very  exciting time for the students as they begin to prepare for high school. I am excited that I can be a part of that experience. I have included below some important information that you will need to know about what to expect form this course.

Materials
2 pencils
2 pens (black and red)
2 colored highlighters
Class colored divider in binder to seperate Language Arts work form other subjects

Planners
All students are asked to write the class assignments, activities, and homework in their planner each day. The planner should be taken home each day so that parents can review the daily assignments.

Absences
If a student is absent it is their responsibility to obtain the assignments from the make-up work folder upon their return. Any work that was assigned prior to an absence is due the day you retuirn to class.  If a student is going to be absent sveral days their parents should call the main office to obtain work form the class. The students are given as many days to complete assignments missed as they are absent.

Grading System
Daily Grades 20%
Quiz Grades 30%
Maujor Tests or Special Projects 50%

Special Projects
Throughout the year, studnets will be assigned various activities and projects. These will have specific guidelines which must be followed. All projects are to be turned in the date they are due. Failure to turn  them in  on time will result in 10 points being taken off each day it is late.


Second Nine Weeks Focus   - Theme/The Strange and Mysterious
Reading Focus:
Analyzing story plot,setting, and problem resolution.
Recognize how style, tone and mood contribute to the effect of the text.
Determine a text's main ideas and how those ideas are supported with details.
Interpret text ideas through such varied means journal writing,discussion, enactment, and media.
