Reading Homework
Instead of sending home little books, between now and the end of school I am sending home basal reading textbooks. Please check the Homework Planner to see the nightly reading assignment for your child. After reading ask your child to retell the story in his/her own words. Discuss the setting and what you have learned about the characters by reading the story. This book may be kept at home until nightly assignments are completed.
Spelling
I am not sending home a new spelling word list this week. These words and the _ack chunk have been difficult for many students, so we will continue to practice these words this week. Friday sentences may contain any word or chunk we have already studied. Be sure to practice writing sentences with spelling words and chunk words so you can work on capitals for the beginning of sentences and for names, and punctuation marks at the end of the sentences.
Math
We will continue our study of solid geometric shapes, plane shapes, and basic fractions, both fractional parts of a whole (1/2, 1/3, 1/4) and parts of a set (3 out of 5, 6 out of 10) will be studied. Making and interpreting graphs will also be studied. We will be taking our end-of-year Math Benchmark Test soon.
Science
We will begin a study of plants this week.
