General encyclopedias (World Book,
Comptons) cover all topics. But throughout the reference collection, specialized encyclopedias and dictionaries are also found. For example:

The complete index is often found only
in the last volume of a reference set.

Look for
your topic in both the index and the table of contents.
Note the
copyright date. This may affect the accuracy of the information.
Note the
scope and sequence of the resource. For example:
