Mr. Deretchin has contributed to The Woodlands community and its development for the last twenty-eight years. He has held several executive positions and served the community in various capacities. His involvement has included work with the staff of developers, as a consultant to private developers, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development New Communities Administration. A major part of Mr. Deretchin’s life centers around his service to the community through his work and volunteer activities. In addition to vast community service, Mr. Deretchin’s commitment to education is evidenced by the activities he has contributed to over the years. He served on the J.L. McCullough High School Parent Advisory Committee, the Site Based Committees of Collins Intermediate and Coulson Tough K-6 School, the District-wide Long-range Planning Committee, several Facilities Planning committees, and several Bond Referendum committees. Mr. Deretchin’s involvement also includes participation in the planning and early development stages of eighteen CISD schools. Joel L. Deretchin is a graduate of Brooklyn College of The City University of New York where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. He received a Masters degree in Public Administration from the University of Minnesota . He is a member of the Community Associations Institute, the Urban Land Institute, and the National Recreation and Parks Association.
