Counselor’s Corner by Jennifer “Jen” Rodes

Our new word of the month is joy, which means finding a way to be happy even when things don’t go your way.  It is important for our students to understand that life doesn’t always go as planned, and I encourage your family to have meaningful conversations about joy.  Our table tents are great conversation starters, and the table tents were sent home in Tuesday folders.

The courage luncheon will be on Friday, April 18, 2008, in the library.   If your child is chosen as the class winner, he/she will receive a letter on Thursday, April 17th.

Credit by Exam

If you are interested in your child accelerating a grade, please contact me as soon as possible for more information.  You can reach me by calling the front office number, which is 281.298.4900.

I hope your family has a month full of joy.

         LIBRARY NEWS

The annual Library Book Fair is HERE!  Our students have the opportunity to browse through hundreds of great books, make a wish list (always long of course as we love books!), and then come back to purchase something if desired.  Our buying days are April 8 - 10 from 8am to 3pm, with a night sale on Thursday, April 10 from 6 - 8 pm.  Come join the book fun!

A special thanks to the wonderful volunteers who are helping out with the book fair.  We couldn't do it without you!

Just a reminder:  The library is closed for book check out during the book fair.  Keep your library books safely at home until April 14.  Thanks!

Our Hamburger book club celebrated with 37 second grade students enjoying hamburgers from Fuddruckers and 39 first graders had their treat of pizza from Pizza Tonight.  Please thank these restaurants for their support of our reading programs.  We had a fabulous time celebrating our reading accomplishments!

Kindergarten students will be enjoying their 2x2 program books through May 9.  Once your child has read 5 books from the list, return the form to Mrs. Lawrence to claim their reading prize.  We share our 2x2 books on a rotating basis each library check out day, plus these titles may be found at the public library.

Kindergarten Round Up 2008

Conroe I.S.D. will kick off their Kindergarten registration for children who will be attending Kindergarten in the fall of the 2008-2009 school year, with their Official Kindergarten Round Up the week of April 7th--11th, 2008.  Please mark your calendars and pass the word to your neighbors and friends who have Kindergarten children who will be coming to Glen Loch. They may come in and register their children beginning that week.

On the following Monday, April 14th, the Glen Loch Kindergarten Team and PTO, will be offering an orientation time for the upcoming Kindergarten children and their parents.  The children will get to experience activities in a Kindergarten classroom with the present students to learn what Kindergarten is like. They will also get to sit on a real school bus during this time. While the children are busy in the classroom and checking out the school bus, the parents will have an opportunity to meet our administrators, get information and answers to their questions regarding the school, register their child, and order school supplies.

LOST AND FOUND

The Lost and Found containers are overflowing.  Parents, if your child has lost a jacket, sweater, lunch kit, etc. please ask them to check the lost and found for recovery of these items.  You are also welcome to stop by and look for a lost item.

Thank you for your help.
