Get Your Head in the Game – READ! Celebrate Children’s Book Week, Nov. 12 – 16, 2007 Celebrate books and reading along with the library during our special week. Contact Mrs. Lawrence for more information. 281-298-4900 or mlawrence@conroeisd.net Below are some of the activities to do during this week: Tuesday: Hats off to reading – wear you favorite hat, or better yet wear a hat similar to that worn by a book character. Look for books with hats in them. Wednesday: Reading is spectacular – "Look" though books of all kinds – investigate something new and different this week. Thursday: Scarf up a great book – Wear a scarf as you "tie" yourself up with a book. Let’s "eat up" as many books as possible! Friday: Don’t be a couch potato – read! Enjoy a reading day in your classroom and at home! Week long activities: Home reading time: Share your favorite books with your family. Turn off the TV and read together. Read a book, and then see the movie made from that book. Compare and discuss what is different / same and why. A few suggestions: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Tuck Everlasting, Charlotte’s Web, The Secret Garden, The Wizard of Oz. Of course even the short films/ TV shows of books such as Arthur or Berenstain Bears would also work for the comparison. Enjoy! Mr. Potato Head contest: Students chose their favorite book character and decorate a potato to represent that character. A similar sized rock, styrofoam ball, etc. can also be used. Non-book characters will be disqualified. A small label with the character’s name, title of the book, author and student’s name must be attached. Character "potato" is due to the library by Friday, Nov. 16. Prizes will be awarded to the best character "potato" in each grade level. Book reviews: Share your favorite book with others. Turn in to Mrs. Lawrence a book review (about 1 minute) of your favorite book. Give title, author, main plot idea and why you like it. Don’t tell the ending!! A few reviews will be shared on the morning announcements each day. Posters / signs: Make a poster to promote your favorite book. Give title, author, and some important information about the book and draw some pictures. Make a sign with a reading slogan using our food / potato head theme. |
