| The Texas Bluebonnet Award Book program is a reading program for 3rd and
4th graders in which they must read a minimum of 5 books from a list of 20
titles. Each year a new and exciting list of titles is given to students
to choose from. List of titles is below. 2007-8 Bluebonnet Award Book List Firegirl / Abbott The Blue Ghost / Bauer The Greatest Skating Race / Borden The Misadventure of Maude March / Couloumbis Chicken Boy / Dowell Who Stole Halloween? / Freeman Double Identity / Haddix Weedflower / Kadohata The Ghost's Grave / Kehret Year of the Dog / Grace Outside and Inside Mummies / Markle Hubert Invents the wheel / Montgomery Roxie and the Hooligans / Naylor Down Girl and Sit: On the Road / Nolan Pompeii: Lost and Found / Osborne Ballet of the Elephants / Schubert Leven Thumps and Gateway to Foo / Obert Bella at Midnight / Stanley George Crum and the Saratoga Chip / Taylor The Earth Dragon Awakes / Yep All of these books are available at Glen Loch, as well as at the public library or at local book stores (purchasing books is completely optional). Glen Loch's Bluebonnet program begins October 9, 2007 and is completed January 18, 2008. In order to receive credit for reading a Bluebonnet book, each student must pass an AR test. Prizes are awarded to students who read a minimum of either 10 or 18 of the twenty books. The ten book level prize is a hand painted tin (painted by librarian Mrs. Lawrence) filled with popcorn. The eighteen book level prize is a hand stenciled t-shirt (also painted by Mrs. Lawrence). Prizes are awarded on our voting day. One hundred eighty two Glen Loch students voted on Friday, January 25 and selected the following books as their favorite titles: #1 Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo by Skye 50 votes #2 Down Girl and Sit: On the Road by Nolan 28 votes #3 The Blue Ghost by Bauer 17 votes The official state Bluebonnet Award Book winner is Down Girl and Sit with 19,248 votes. Prizes were awarded to 48 students who read at least ten books and to 14 students who read 18 of the 20 titles! Congratulations to these amazing readers!
