Named after Gerald J. Creighton, a lawyer by profession and former CISD school board president.
The school was built in 1980 and originally opened as an intermediate school.  In 1981 a significant portion of the middle of the school, including the library, burned and had to be re-constructed.
The school was originally called the "Creighton Country Critters," and then later just the "Creighton Critters." The mascot at that time was the armadillo.
Two large classroom wings were added to the school in 1994.
In August of 2001 the school was converted and opened as a new elementary school.
The school mascot is now the Panther Cub.
The school colors are red, white, and blue.
The school motto is: "The Start of Something Big"
Approximately 880 students attend Creighton Elementary.
