Crossing the Street

Safely

The following are basic reminders for all students when they must cross a street to load or unload the school bus.

When Loading or Unloading:
  • Students should not stand in the street and they should always stay at least 10 feet or 10 giant steps away from the road or the bus.
  • The student should not move until the driver gives them the signal that it is safe to cross.
  • As the student crosses in front of the bus, the student should look at the driver.
  • If the student can see the driver the driver can see the student.
  • As the student nears the center of the roadway, the student should look left, right and left to make sure that all of the cars have stopped.
  • The student should not go to the mailbox or stop to wait or visit with friends.  Students should go straight home.

All students should:

ALWAYS BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR CARS THAT DO NOT STOP FOR THE BUS LIGHTS!

All students should:

STOP IMMEDIATELY if the driver honks the horn while they are crossing the street and look at the driver for directions.
