Pocket Chart Station

Materials: pocket chart, sentence strips, word cards

Purpose: To provide additional reading opportunities to master basic concepts of print through word matching, word recognition, and identifying word boundaries.

How it looks: The teacher copies the text onto sentence strips and cuts the sentence strips into words. The children reconstruct the favorite stories, poems, and songs in the chart and then read them. Each set is color-coded and stored in resealable bags, along with a copy of the book or poem.
