CERTIFICATION INFORMATION

Out-of State Teaching Certificates

The Texas State Board of Educator Certification (SBEC) will issue a Texas One-Year Certificate to those teachers who hold a valid teaching certificate from another state. Application for an evaluation of credentials and issuance of a Texas One-Year Certificate should be made through the Texas State Board of Educator Certification. The toll free number is 1-888-863-5880 and the web page address is http://www.sbec.state.tx.us.

Alternative Certification Programs

Conroe ISD will only consider alternative certification candidates who have taken and passed the TExES test in their content area.  Alternative Certification Programs (ACP) are designed for persons who have a degree but do not have a teaching certificate.  Conroe ISD will work with any ACP that has SBEC approval.  A listing of approved ACPs can be found on the SBEC web site – http://www.sbec.state.tx.us – Click on “How to Become a Teacher in Texas”.

Please check with the program of your choice for information regarding certifications offered and application to the program.  Most programs offer information sessions for program requirements, eligibility and costs.

Emergency Teaching Permit

Due to  No Child Left Behind requirements, the District is unable to consider candidates under an emergency teaching permit.

No Degree

Those who do not have a Bachelor's degree should go to the university of their choice with a teacher education program and have a degree plan done. There are many universities in our area that offer teaching certification programs. Teacher certification can be obtained in Vocational Trades and Industries without a degree (example: Small Engine Repair, Cosmetology).
