Bonnie Wilkinson Elementary School Dedicated
Conroe Independent School District dedicated Bonnie Wilkinson Elementary School on Sunday, October 25. More than six hundred well wishers were in attendance to witness the ceremony honoring the school's namesake. Community members, school children, school personnel, friends, and family members honored Mrs. Wilkinson with a standing ovation when she entered the school's cafetorium.
Mrs. Wilkinson, served the children of CISD for twenty-five years as a special education teacher, counselor, assistant principal, and principal. She was the first principal for both Glen Loch Elementary and Giesinger Elementary where she established many traditions that will live through generations of children. She retired in June of 1994 and has continued to serve the community during her retirement. She has volunteered on boards of the Conroe Symphony, The Assistance League, Montgomery County Republican Women, The Performing Arts Society and the Board of Trustees of the First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Victor Uher is the school's first principal and served as the Master of Ceremonies for the event. The program included remarks from Superintendent Dr. Don Stockton and various CISD Board Members. Students entertained the audience with musical numbers including the school song. At the end of the program, a portrait of Wilkinson was unveiled which will hang in the front entrance of the school. A showcase in the school also contains memorabilia that Mrs. Wilkinson has shared with the school. The photographs and keepsakes will help visitors glean insight about the great lady for whom the school is named.
The school is located on Ed Kharbat Road and is one of three new schools which opened in August for the 09-10 school year. It is one of nine elementary schools in the Conroe High School feeder zone. The school has selected a lion as the mascot and school colors are green and gold.
