What is a School Counselor? As a counselor at Creighton Elementary I work in partnership with students, teachers,parents, and the community to help students have a successful and positive school experience. My job is to help Creighton Cubs become responsible individuals, to be independent thinkers, to develop sound problem solving and decision making skills, and to see themselves in terms of their fullest potential. I conduct guidance lessons through the library specials for grades 2, 3, and 4th grade. I also conduct guidance lesson for PK, K, and 1st in the classroom. Guidance lessons are based on the six pillars of character. The Characteristics of the program include: respect, responsibility, fairness, honesty, trustworthiness, and cooperation. Along with the pillars, children learn about accepting diversity, self-awareness, coping with academics, and handling conflicts amoung peers and adults. How would a student see a School Counselor? Students may seek counseling in the following ways: Self-referral Teacher referral Administrative referral Parent referral Referral by any other concerned |
