PHILOSOPHY OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Physical Education is an area of education which plays an integral role in the school curriculum.  A well-rounded physical education program should contribute to the physical, mental, moral, social, and emotional growth of individual students.  Significant research studies show a positive correlation between the development of physical skills and the ability to achieve in academic areas.

A balanced K-6 program of regular physical education classes helps to provide avenues for the orderly progression of skill development of each individual.  A primary goal of Physical Education is to teach every child from the physically gifted to the physically challenged how and why they should keep themselves healthy and fit throughout their lifetime.  Physical Education should provide learning experiences which are developmentally appropriate that will teach children how to be physically active in ways that increase physical competence, self-esteem and joy throughout their lifetime.
